Tipografia animale / Animal Typography

Sempre nell’ottica di ricercare somiglianze e frattali tra umani, vegetali e animali, ho raccolto alcune tracce trascritte dall’avanzare dell’edera (Hedera helix) sui tronchi.

Al di là del nome che riporta l’aggettivo identico a quello della chiocciola (helix) per il loro sviluppo a spirale e a cui non posso rimanere insensibile visto che tutto il nostro universo si sviluppa attorno a questa formula armonica (phi), spirale e aurea… a parte questo, dicevo, il procedere dell’edera ha in sé qualcosa della scrittura che anche i Sapiens hanno sviluppato. Sembrano degli ideogrammi, dei segni più o meno complessi che immagino traccino un alfabeto a noi ignoto.

La stessa cosa la ritrovo nella scia delle lumache che è comunque dettata dal loro orientarsi con l’olfatto e la luce. Talvolta assumono tutte la stessa direzione creando delle scie, talaltra, posto al cento il cibo, strisciano con moto centripeto lasciando dei raggi attorno ad un cerchio… il loro incedere non è mai casuale. Esiste una scelta e non solo un istinto.

Infine, le gallerie scavate da un minuscolo coleottero (Ips Typographus) all’interno delle cortecce degli abeti rossi sono interessanti per la loro perfezione estetica non avendo nulla da invidiare a dei pizzi o merletti di Burano. Io li ho solo ingranditi e riprodotti «mordicchiando» la carta, come lui fa con il legno. D’altra parte se Linneo l’aveva chiamato tipografo, significa che l’aveva già paragonato ad uno scrivano, un Gutemberg che sapeva dominare i caratteri.

I find the same thing in the trail of snails which is in any case dictated by their orientation with smell and light. Sometimes they all take the same direction creating trails, sometimes, when the food is placed at the center, they crawl with centripetal motion leaving rays around a circle… their progress is never random. There is a choice and not just an instinct.

Finally, the galleries dug by a tiny beetle (Ips Typographus) inside the bark of the spruce trees are interesting for their aesthetic perfection having nothing to envy to lace or Burano lace. I only enlarged and reproduced them by “nibbling” the paper, as he does with wood. On the other hand, if Linnaeus had called him a typographer, it means that he had already compared him to a scribe, a Gutenberg who knew how to master the characters.
