SEMI / SEEDS

I semi sono talmente parte della nostra vita quotidiana che quasi non ci accorgiamo quanto profonda sia la nostra dipendenza da loro. Viviamo in un mondo di semi: dal nostro caffè e brioche del mattino, al cotone dei vestiti, il cibo, coloranti, olii, fibre, ecc.
Le piante con i semi costituiscono oltre il 90 % della flora e dominano la terra da oltre 100 milioni di anni. L’evoluzione dei Sapiens non si sarebbe mai verificata in un mondo privo di semi. Queste piccole meraviglie botaniche hanno aperto la strada alla civiltà moderna costituendone le basi nutrizionali.
L’intrinseca capacità di rimanere quiescenti le distingue da tutte le altre forme di vita e per noi la scoperta di come raccogliere e controllare i semi quiescenti ha aperto la strada allo sviluppo dell’agricoltura e continua ad influenzare il destino delle nazioni.

Seeds are such a part of our daily lives that we hardly notice how deeply dependent we are on them. We live in a world of seeds: from our morning coffee and croissants, to the cotton in our clothes, food, dyes, oils, fibers, etc. Seed plants make up over 90% of the flora and have dominated the earth for over 100 million years.
The evolution of Sapiens would never have occurred in a world without seeds. These little botanical wonders paved the way for modern civilization by forming its nutritional basis.
Their intrinsic ability to remain dormant distinguishes them from all other life forms, and for us, the discovery of how to collect and control dormant seeds paved the way for the development of agriculture and continues to influence the destiny of nations.
